The Way of Kings

Brandon Sanderson’s epic series, The Stormlight Archive, is the pinnacle of high fantasy. From complex characters to unique systems of magic reliant on things like light and color, his stories are packed with rich imagery. For The Way of Kings, I chose to represent one of my favorite scenes from the book, one of the first you encounter in the prologue. Each of the blades were found assets that have been edited into the surrounding scenery. I decided to stick to warm, darker colors to portray the tone of the book, which starts by showing the brutal aftermath of a war. All image effects were achieved using Photoshop, including a slightly edited typeface for the title.

The Odyssey

Arguably one of the most recognizable epic poems to date, The Odyssey is a true pleasure to try and capture in a design. A unique challenge I faced was deciding which parts of this epic tale to portray on its cover. Having found a stock illustration of a ship, I decided to find more illustrative elements to include as much of the journey as possible. Each of the sails contains a different character or story beat, including the torn shroud overlaid on the main image. The entire cover design was achieved in Photoshop, where each of the sails was cut out and masked to create a small viewing window for each piece of the story represented.
